Ice Cups are used for localized/superficial areas of pain. They are used prior to using an ice pack. Unlike an ice pack that is stationary and should surround the entire joint/area, an ice cup should treat an area no larger than the size of the palm of a hand. The ice cup is meant to be continuously moving (ice massage) in a SLOW, CIRCULAR direction for 5-7 min. The use of an ice cup will generally be recommended for localized treatment for tendinitis prior to wrapping the area with an ice pack. Ice is a natural vasoconstrictor.
